Abstract Mediation Bus for Ubiquitous Services (Future Internet Services) The talk (based on the outcome of the work of the eMobility WG on “Mediation Bus for Ubiquitous Services (Future Internet Services)”) introduces the Mediation Bus (MB) that targets to act as a both long-term revolutionary and short-term evolutionary paradigm for networks and services for new generation communication systems. MB refers to a distributed environment that achieves an optimized operation of Future Internet (FI) by performing mediation operations among the service and network/transport layer entities. In this context, MB enables both service and scenario-oriented end-user treatment by instructing the involved entities to execute the appropriate commands in an efficient and network agnostic way. The talk identifies the key features of the mediation bus, the derived research priorities and the key high-level recommendations that have to be followed. Biography Dr Georgios Kormentzas is Research Associate with the Institute of Informatics & Telecommunications of the Greek National Center for Scientific Research "Demokritos" and Assistant Professor in the University of the Aegean, Department of Information and Communication Systems Engineering and. He was born in Athens, Greece on 1973. He received the Diploma in Electrical and Computer Engineering and the Ph.D. in Computer Science both from the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA), Greece, in 1995 and 2000, respectively. His research interests are in the fields of middleware, Internet services and network management. He has published extensively in the fields above, in international scientific journals, edited books and conference proceedings. He is a member of pronounced professional societies, an active reviewer and guest editor for several journals and conferences and EU-evaluator for Marie Curie Actions. George Kormentzas has participated in a number of national and international research projects at FP5 (i.e., CREDO), FP6 (i.e., ENTHRONE) and FP7 (i.e., HURRICANE) programmes, serving in some instances as the project’s technical representative for University of Aegean or “Demokritos” and/or as WP leader and/or as the project’s Technical Manager. He was the technical manager of FP6-IST-STREP UNITE project and co-chair of the FP6 B3GSA cluster. He served also as the General Chair of Manweek 2008. Currently, he is the project manager of FP7-ICT-STREP HURRICANE project and chair of one of the working groups of eMobility Technology Platform. |

Abstract Opportunities for Advanced Research in Telecom Systems - ARTES/ESA – Framework In this talk we will try to give a brief overview of ESA’s Telecommunication Programme, implemented through the ARTES framework. We will present specific and targeted activities and elements with an emphasis on those initiatives in which Greece is involved in the area of Telecommunications. It is realized that ESA’s primary objective is the enhancement of the competitiveness of European Industry by promoting the use of satellites for advanced fixed, broadcasting, multimedia and mobile communications, data relay, search and rescue and aeronautical services. The Agency activities implemented through the so called ARTES - elements framework enables European and Canadian industry to implement and explore innovative concepts that result into high added value products and services.
