Welcome to MOBILIGHT 2009
The 1st International Conference on Mobile Lightweight Wireless Systems
Welcome Message
Dear colleagues,
First of all, welcome to the First International Conference on Mobile Lightweight Systems!
The decision to organize a scientific event on wireless communications, where competition is really enormous was motivated by discussion with some colleagues about the current unprecedented request for lightweight, wireless communication devices with high usability and performance able to support added-value services in a highly mobile environment. Such devices follow the user everywhere he goes (at work, at home, while travelling, in a classroom, etc.), but also result in exciting research, development and business opportunities.
This scenario clearly demands significant upgrades to the existing communication paradigm in terms of infrastructure, devices and services to support the ANYTIME, ANYWHERE, ANY DEVICE philosophy, introducing novel and fast-evolving requirements and expectations on research and development in the field of information and communication technologies. The core issue is to support wireless users' desire of 24/7 network availability and transparent access to "their own" services.
In this context, we envisioned an international forum where practitioners and researchers coming from the many areas involved in lightweight wireless systems design and deployment would be able to interact and exchange experiences. For this reason, MOBILIGHT targets information exchange and cross-fertilization among the different worlds of academia, research centers and industry through the organization of specific and interacting tracks related to:
- technology, including wireless (WPAN, WLAN, WMAN/cellular) as well as architectures and design methodologies to support seamless access to the communication facility;
- services, in the vision of “always on” requirement
- business models, opportunities and solutions.
The effort for organizing such an event is huge, and organizing it for the first time makes it even more difficult, requiring hard teamwork and true dedication. For this reason, and for their outstanding contributions, we’d like to express our gratitude to all the people of the organizing committee, who really did a wonderful job. In particular, our gratitude goes to the Technical Co-Chairs, Periklis, Simone and Yang, for their constant support and fruitful suggestions, to ICST and CREATE-NET for providing technical and financial sponsorship of the event and, last but not least, to Prof. Imrich Chlamtac, for his precious suggestions and his vision. But most of all, we’d like to thank authors and contributors for trusting the organizing committee and giving us the chance to set up a high level technical program. Lastly, we would also like to thank technical committee members and additional reviewers for the thorough review reports and constructive remarks for ensuring a high technical quality level.
For us, it is really an honour to have the opportunity to organize MOBILIGHT and we sincerely hope that you’ll enjoy the technical program and that the event will stimulate fruitful discussion and collaborations for the next years!
MOBILIGHT 2009 will be held at the Amarilia hotel in Vouliagmeni, a sea resort at a beautiful suburb of Athens, Greece. Someone, could easily enjoy a walk by the sea, and even a swim, and still reach the plethora of cultural sights within Attica. We could recommend going for the sunset to Sounio. Therefore, we hope that the venue will be a valuable and memorable personal experience.
